The Hare and the Tortoise
Yesterday, for the first time, I saw a live hockey game.
The home team was hosting the visiting team, and playing in a happy, supportive – and screaming – fan filled arena. There was noise, enthusiasm, branding of towels, T-shirts, lights, music, ads, and of course, cheerleaders.
The game started. Thirty three seconds into it (yes: 33 seconds), the home team scored. The crowd was on its feet screaming with joy. Within a few minutes, they scored 2 more goals, and everyone was ecstatic (well…except the opposing team and its few supporters) and beer was flowing to celebrate the expected victory.
Except that the home team lost.
After its fast and furious victory in the first few minutes, their game level spiraled down while the other team kept pressuring them with focus, energy, persistence, determination and motivation.
It started with a bang, and ended with a silent and frustrated shuffle of sullen feet walking towards the arena’s exits.
I’m sure you all understand the moral of this real story.
Like in the fable, great coaching, long-term strategy, persistence and pushing forward pays off.
Much success in your endeavors!
