Clear Strategies, Clear Solutions
I recently sat down in a meeting with the CEO of a global company. We started a working process to untangle years of accumulating issues. They need a fresh outlook, a modernized approach to business, new strategies for success and a team that would be guided and supported by clear visions and solutions.
He complained about how his top managers lack experience, vision, creativity and commitment. Who hired them? I gently inquired. Silence fell in the room.
He complained about how his team lacks understanding on the business and knowledge of cultural practices. How are they trained and prepared for their jobs? I asked. There was no reply, only a tired sigh.
He complained about years of neglect of important growth opportunities, of missed high-level relationships and failed projects. I wanted to ask: where were you when that happened?
I could have addressed his personal responsibility and how he contributed to this dismal situation. However, I can help him become more accountable as our work progresses. Meanwhile, it is more productive to look at clear strategies and clear solutions in order to go forward and achieve tangible results.
Sometimes, we find in our personal lives that we have messed up, let problems grow, neglected to focus on important issues, ignored challenges and opportunities… but it is never too late to pick up the pieces, and define clear strategies and clear solutions towards a better future.
